Why did sailors wear gold earrings?
There is an explanation for it, but who knows if these things are myth or modern fabrications.
The reason is said to be that, if they fell overboard, the gold earring would pay for a decent Christian burial when their body finally washed ashore. In those days sailors went over the side due to falling from the rigging on a leeward roll – in which case they fell onto the deck and died, or into the sea if it was from the leeward end of a yard; or they could get washed over the side in heavy weather. There was no chance the ship could turn round and pick them up, so they were dead men.
Another story has it that the earring was worn in the left ear if they had passed Cape Horn eastabout – and so on. There are plenty of these tales.
Yet another example of double standards. Guys can wear earrings, have long hair in a bun or ponytail, dye their hair, shave their legs and wear Lycra shorts or leggings, have piercings, tattoos, beards, wear tanktops, but wear a skirt or dress: NO!!
All the while women can do all of these (maybe not beards) with total immunity.
Why the f… is it NOT conmonly acceptable for a guy to slip on a dress or skirt when he wants to?
For two years now I have been wearing skirts in public and have yet to experience any negative comments or backlash. I openly discuss it with women of all ages and professions and they all openly accept a skirt as being a piece of fabric anyone can wear
Lingerie too is a matter of choice, nobody knows or cares if a guy is wearing panties or hosiery
Clothes have no gender, clothes don’t know who is wearing what and clothing retailers also don’t care who buys it as long as it gets paid for
I well know that from my personal experience of buying “female” clothing myself.
It IS ok for guys to buy clothing targeted at females, and it’s high time the world just accepted it without question
