Moonstone is a micro-plagioclase with lattice-shaped twin crystals. Two sets of twin crystal lines that are approximately perpendicular to each other scatter the incident light. The dense scattered light is concentrated together and presents a hazy halo, like moonlight, so it is called ” Moonlight effect”. The plagioclase with moonlight effect is also called moonstone.
Some transparent or semi-transparent gemstones, when they contain many opaque tiny solid inclusions inside, will shimmer through reflection under light irradiation. This phenomenon is called the “Venus effect”, also known as the “placer gold effect”, such as Venus Quartz etc.
Gemstones with fluorescence or phosphorescence are called luminous gemstones, among which gems with strong phosphorescence are commonly known as “night pearls”. Such as red fluorescence of ruby, blue fluorescence of scheelite, blue phosphorescence of diamond, ฯลฯ.
These special optical effects add more charm and interest to the gem. If you are lucky enough to have it and customize it on jewelry, it will have a special beauty.
