La sfârșitul Titanicului, de ce Rose aruncă colierul?
M-am întrebat asta când am văzut prima dată filmul, și chiar m-a deranjat — Pur si simplu nu am inteles.
Rose nu părea să fie o bătrână nebună. Sigur, s-a distrat bine – a devenit actor, copii crescuti, a zburat cu avioane, a mers pe montagne russe, și călărea pe cai “ca un bărbat” – tot ceea ce i-ar fi putut tulbura creierul, și a făcut-o mult mai puțin practică în privința acestui gen de lucruri decât aș fi crezut, datându-i-o îndrăzneală. Vreau să spun, haide, ea știe direct că nu o poți lua cu tine, şi totuşi, ea încerca. Părea în contradicție cu caracterul ei. Nu cunosc bătrâne care să nu fie de-a dreptul ieftine, când vine vorba de asta. Mama îmi trimitea copiii $10 checks for their birthdays – uneori. Seriously, acum.
Aşa, here’s a priceless blue diamond, and she tosses it over the side — what is that about? Her family, who she may well have lied to for years, shouldn’t benefit from her story? Endow a woman’s college or something, for crying out loud! The survivors or family of people who perished on the Titanic, shouldn’t benefit? Or perhaps even Cal’s heirs, who were left with nothing when he offed himself after the 1929 crash, they should be stuck with the sins of their father? (la urma urmelor, Cal did give her his coat, and the necklace was inside the pocket – you’d think she’d have forgiven him, by now). Maybe Rose wanted to avoid all those legal inheritance issues and battles; could be simple as that.
Worse, deşi, ea îi lasă pe Brock și alți scafandri și potențiali vânători de comori să o aibă. Gândindu-mă la asta, Acțiunea lui Rose este o dezamăgire neintenționată, și comentariu deprimant asupra naivității, și natura temporală a “etern” dragoste.
Pot fi.
Și poate că era doar o bătrână nebună – Cunosc multe dintre ele, și aspir să fiu eu însumi într-o zi (nu saptamana asta, Sper), deci de ce nu. Uneori este mai bine să nu te gândești prea mult sau să analizezi prea mult, mai ales când vizionați imagini MARI. S-ar putea argumenta că acțiunea bătrânului Rose a fost egoistă și absorbită de sine; dar eu cred că exact asta îi făcuse Jack să promită să facă, în timp ce se strecoară în apele îngheţate – o face să promită că va trăi, egoist și pe deplin, fără a ține cont de structură sau convenție, si sa “nu lasa niciodata” a acelei promisiuni.
Privind unele site-uri de fani, Am descoperit că a fost propus un final alternativ; Rose’s granddaughter and Brock try to stop Rose at the rail from tossing the necklace into the murky depths. Cameron cut the ending because supposedly he decided that it wouldn’t matter to an audience whether or not Brock got redemption. Apparently, Rose lets him hold the Heart of the Ocean, and then he gives it back to her; she then drops it in the water ceremoniously, înţelegere…something. I’m sure there would’ve been a shot of Brock, nodding ponderously, looking recalcitrant about his greed, and humbled by witnessing an eternal love (while keeping his fingers crossed that coordinates of the location were being recorded, for his next dive, once the old lady had had her nightcap and was all tucked in).
It’s much more romantic to simply surrender to the story, emotionally, despite that little voice that…wait, why didn’t Jack just knock off one of those dead people off a fridge and get out of the water, and live, prea? Sau…didn’t she care about her mom, at all? Sau…was he really THAT hot? He can’t have had good teeth. Really. Sau…bine, whatever.
Upon learning that there’s no record of Jack, oriunde, old Rose says: “Nu, there wouldn’t be, would there?…A woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets. But now you know there was a man named Jack Dawson and that he saved me…in every way that a person can be saved. I don’t even have a picture of him. He exists now…only in my memory.”
Early in the film, Cal gives Rose the Heart of the Ocean, he says: “Open your heart to me Rose”. And she covers the diamond with her hand. At the end of the film, old Rose lets the Heart of the Ocean go, having opened her heart to Jack and his memory. She lets go, releasing Jack’s memory and her secrets, and letting go of her promise to him to live, because she knows her time is done. Rose’s heart, her Heart of the Ocean, her will to live, rejoins the deep ocean from whence it came.
Geez, now I’m getting all weepy.
