Olivine is identified based on the special grass green (slightly yellowish tint, also called olive green), the inclusion of water lily leaves, weak pleochroism, refractive index, birefringence and absorption spectrum. Due to the high birefringence, faceted edge double shadow lines can often be seen in faceted gems. Based on these characteristics, it is easy to distinguish it from other similar gems. Gemstones similar to olivine include green tourmaline (the pleochroism is obviously stronger than that of olivine, and the refractive index is significantly lower than that of olivine), green berkelite ((the refractive index and density are significantly higher than that of olivine, and the absorption spectrum is different), chromium Diopside (chromium absorption in the red zone) and chrysoberyl (refractive index and density are significantly higher than olivine).

my country’s Hebei and Jilin both produce good quality green to yellow-green olivine. The United States, Ресей, Мьянма, and Brazil also produce gem-quality peridot.
