Is it OK to wear heavy earrings?
See some of the other answers for issues about how heavy earrings can pull the lobe down and enlarge the piercing.
Бақытына қарай, most large earrings are not heavy enough to do this. Even metal earrings are usually hollow, thus reducing weight and stress on the lobe. Plastic, bakelite or resin earrings are all very light. Stone earrings are usually designed in slices, to reduce weight.
A good jewelry designer will be thinking of all these desirability factors, since uncomfortable earrings will end up unborn.
By the way, wearing heavy clip on earrings over a pierced ear is perfectly OK. It will not disturb the piercing and will make chunky earrings wearable.
What do you do if your dog ate an earring?
Was this a stud earring or a hoop or a long dangly earring? I would be worried about it perforating the bowel; after digestion it will be pushed in his bowels into poop which is sometimes hard and it could push against the walls of the bowels and cause a tear. It could be perfectly fine. In fact in most cases I would guess that the dog would be fine. A friend of mine’s dog just ate $55 in cash and then pooped it out a few days later all in one big wad and some of the money was actually salvageable. Depending on how worried you are, I would advise calling your vet. They’ll probably tell you that unless they’re showing symptoms of pain (lethargy, not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, any blood coming out of either end) that you should watch his poop until the earring passes or if it doesn’t in a few days perhaps take him to the vet for an X-ray. Generally speaking your dog will probably be fine.
Should I leave my earrings on when I shower?
This is from someone who used to buy and sell jewelry in a retail setting: yes yes yes! Please take your earrings out! If you are talking about diamond earrings, Diamonds attract grease. This is why some diamond sorting operations use a greased conveyor belt to sort Diamonds out from gravel. That being said, since they stick to grease and grease sticks to them so easily, the oil from your skin will continue to build up on the back of the diamond and it will make the earrings look cloudy, not pretty! I have cleaned many earrings in my day.
Designate a toothbrush to the cause, use Dawn dish soap and warm water. Easiest way to clean all your jewelry and it won’t hurt it as long as we’re talking about precious metals. Be aware of allowing water to sit on any costume jewelry, rust can form. While we’re on the subject, I would also be sure to dry sterling silver completely as it will oxidize(turn black) faster when wet.
