Natural opal is a color-changing block in opal. According to the color characteristics and optical effects, there are mainly 4 varieties:

(1) Black opal: It is a gem opal that strongly changes color on a blue, black or green base. It is translucent to opaque, and changes color to deep and bright. It is the most precious variety of opals and is called in southern my country. As the “Black Mountain Cloud”.

Opal is sold in the market in three forms: “whole grain”, two-layer stone and three-layer stone, of which whole particles are of higher value. The economic evaluation of Opal should consider three main factors. The summary is as follows:

(1) Body color: Black or dark opal is better.

(2) Color change: Color change should be spread over the entire gemstone, uniform and complete. No colorless “dead spots” or poor quality opals.

3) Robustness: The best products are no cracks, compactness and no damage.
