Blue cordierite is cut and shaped like sapphire, but because the hardness, specific gravity and refractive index of blue cordierite are not as good as sapphire, and cordierite has strong pleochroism, it is not difficult to distinguish the two. Although gem-grade cordierite treasures are rare, they have been discovered.
