The heat treatment of amber is to heat the opaque or cloudy amber in vegetable oil to make it transparent and reduce some impurities. The color of heat-treated amber is mostly yellow, cokelat, red, and there are very few bubbles inside, clean and transparent; sometimes a cloud layer composed of fine bubbles can be seen, which will cause fine lines on the surface over time; no reaction in ether.

Reconstituted amber is formed by heating and compressing amber scraps. Mostly orange-yellow or orange-red, the reconstituted amber pressed by the old technology has obvious flow structure, which contains bubbles, which are elongated in one direction to form a cloud-like strip; the reconstituted amber pressed by the new technology has no bubbles and no cloud and fog areas; some The pressed product is transparent and uniform, with undissolved matter, and granular structure can be seen; it will become soft after soaking in ether for a few minutes.

There are many imitation ambers on the market now, such as artificial amber that wraps insects, spiders, small animals, and bubbles in resin, which should be distinguished.

Amber is produced in coal strata and coastal placers. The main source is the south coast of the Baltic Sea. Such as the former Soviet Union, Poland, Jerman, Denmark, dll..
