I will not ask you how your sterling silver whatever got into your chlorine pool, because I am polite. Cependant, I am familiar what chlorine can do to sterling, as my step son tried to soak a few pieces of my flatware in bleach water. You are dealing here with a gross, whitish finish on your silver. This is scary and removing this is not for the faint of heart. This takes working quickly with ‘industrial’, stinky stuff.

Buy some ‘Tarnex’ at the grocery or hardware store; it smells bad. Have on hand your ‘Wright’s Silver Cream’, the old kind. Fill your sink with soapy water. Begin with the back or side of whatever silver is chlorined. Pour a bit of the Tarnex liquid on a soft white cloth and rub. The white gunk should begin coming off and you may have some black, normal tarnish to deal with. If all is well and you haven’t spit up from the smell, proceed to the entire piece, whatever that is. The very minute you remove all gunk, toss the silver into the soapy water. Maintenant, work on the rest of the silver, tossing each piece into the soapy water. Drain and wash the sink. It will be gross, too.

Rinse well with hot water. You will want to now polish your silver with the Wright’s Silver Cream, as it doesn’t look like it should. Don’t freak out. Wright’s has a good bit of abrasive in it. It’s perfect for this job. You’re going to think I’m weird, but I always wash mine again and rinse with the hot water. It works.

If you are a shine freak, you may want to do some buffing. A friend of mine is a bad shine freak. She uses jewelers’ rouge and a Dremel. Those are for the hard core. Cependant, the silver appears to have a dark cast to it. But it shines.

I have a ton of silver everything that I’ve inherited from my grandmother and mother-in-law, so I feel like I’m a professional silver polisher and keeper. Don’t tell, but I’ve been known to put my silver in the dishwasher. I don’t advise it, but it will do in a pinch. YOU will become the pro silver polisher after this.

You MUST tell me how your silver got into your swimming pool. I won’t tell.
