Non. Your dressing should never be based on your profession. We need to clear out the stereotype. Look at Google and Facebook. They don’t ask to wear formals or anything. They just hire you for your skills and that is it. They pay you for it.

I have left ear piercing and the day I got a bigger stud, my VP asked me “why are you wearing it?” And I just said that I like it, sir. He was clearly not happy with my answer but then he really couldn’t do much about it.

in my opinion, workplace should make you as comfortable as they can to get the best results from you.

Would it be OK if I changed my earrings 5 weeks after getting my ears pierced?

I would strongly advise you not toat 5 semaines, your piercings are still healing and are vulnerable to infection. They’re essentially small wounds which need to be taken care of, and changing them before they’ve fully healed will irritate them.

The jewellery you were given by your piercer should be made of a good quality material which is ideal for new piercings, so taking that out is a bad idea at this stage. When you do change it, make sure it’s a good quality metal such as medical grade titanium or gold, making sure to avoid nickel.

The healing time for lobe piercings is approximately 6–8 weeks and for cartilage is more like 6–12 months. It’s much better to wait a little bit longer for your piercing to heal properly than to change it too soon and risk irritation or infection.

I never take off my earrings. Is that unsanitary?

You should probably run them through an ultrasonic every few months after they are healed and clean them in the shower and never wear butterfly backs for longer than a day, this is a bit gross in my opinion, but I know most people do it, without issue. Jewellery should always be top quality to be kept in long term. Metals do have some antibacterial properties, this is why steel is preferred for door handles. But there should never be a large build up of “gunk” on your earrings after they are healed, they should be cleaned daily. If you have earrings you need an ultrasonic, no if’s or but’s, don’t even think about getting a piercing or a timepiece even, without investing in one of these, its nasty. And jewellery should be cleaned and settings checked yearly by a professional, if you cant do this, you cant afford jewellery, this is why children/ teenagers shouldn’t be pierced unless the parents are willing to assist them and care for them, only a bad parent would do this, its irresponsible.
