If your silver ring is stamped 925 you can be fairly certain it is sterling silver. As far as the diamond part goes you have to use some common sense. If you had the money to purchase a “ large” expensive diamond would you then have it mounted in a silver setting or would you spend the extra money and have it mounted in white gold or even platinum. Gold and platinum family of metals are much more durable materials. Silver is kind of soft compared to them. If your diamonds are on the smaller size then yes I could understand a silver setting. Best bet is go to a reputable jeweler and have 5he stones tested. One thing I want to mention. . . I was reading one of the other answers and they mentioned unmarked rings being made to deceive the buyer. I want to let you know that there are a lot of rings out there which do not have any metal stamp in them. We do them often where I work at. A customer brings in grandma’s ring and wants to use the metal ( sentimental reasons) for a diffrent project . We don’t put a karat stamp on the finished piece. We can not absolutely guarantee grandma’s ring even tho stamped 14k is actually 14k. Sure we could test the metal, and sometimes do. . . But sometimes it has been sized or repaired, we can’t test every single part of the ring. So the customers gold it may actually turn out to be 13.5k or 14,5k. Bottom line just because there isn’t a karat stamp in the metal doesnt mean it isn’t gold. By the same token just because it is stamped 14k doesn’t mean it is gold. Lol most likely it is but one must be careful.
