1. Facets, edges and corners
The high hardness of the diamond determines that the diamond has a flat surface, straight edges, and sharp corners, while imitations have low hardness, so the edges and corners will be smoothly curved.
2. Waist features
The waist of a standard round diamond cut diamond is generally not polished but the rough surface is retained. This rough and uniform surface is ground glass. However, due to the low hardness of diamond imitations, although the waist is not polished, it still remains on the rough surface. Polishing marks can be seen in parallel arrangement of nail-like wear marks. In addition, natural faces, V-shaped notches and whisker-shaped waists are often retained in and around the natural diamond waist.
3. Polish marks
Diamonds have high hardness and can form good polishing, so in most cases no polishing marks can be seen on the facets of diamonds. Sometimes the polishing is not refined, and fine polishing lines can be seen on some facets. Due to the directionality of the hardness of diamonds, the directions of the polishing marks on the adjacent small facets are also different. On the contrary, imitation products are easier to find polishing marks, and the directions of the polishing marks on adjacent small facets are roughly the same.
4. Wear
The extremely high hardness of diamond makes it not easy to be worn, even if worn, it is limited to the corners of individual facets. However, imitation products will be more severely worn due to their low hardness.
