Color is one of the key factors affecting the quality of jadeite. Professionals say to be “good green”, to be strong, positive, and even.
“Dense”: refers to the depth of the emerald color, which should be thick but not light. Cui has many colors, and green is the most important color. Good jade requires emerald green with appropriate shades.
“Yang”: refers to the brightness of the color of jadeite, which is mainly determined by the ratio of green to black (or gray) in jadeite. The green proportion is more, the color of jade is bright. If the proportion of black or gray is large, the color of jade will become dark. Good jade has a brighter color. The brighter the color, the higher the value of jade. Boxwood green, scallion green, parrot green, etc. all refer to bright green, while spinach green, oil cyan, river green, etc. refer to dull dark green.
“Positive”: It means that the hue of jadeite should be pure, without other colors. Pure green is called positive color, and if there is any variegated color, it is evil color. For example, the pure jade should be true green or emerald green; the purple jade should be pure violet. Jadeite usually has a color cast, which is generally blue, yellow or gray. If there is a color cast, it is more yellow than blue. If the emerald green contains a yellow tone (ie yellowish), it is called “seyang” or “color tender”; if the emerald green contains a blue tone (ie bluish), it is called “old color” or “color hard”.
“Uniformity”: refers to the uniformity of the color distribution of jadeite, regardless of shade. Jadeite is a collection of the same or different kinds of minerals, and the color is mostly distributed in dots, filaments, or clumps, which is difficult to achieve uniformity. Therefore, the more uniform the color of Cui, the higher its value.
